Black Ice Games

This is a site dedicated to the games I Play, Maybe some games that my friends play.  Here’s a little history about my gaming history.  I began my gaming addiction with the gateway drug known as Magic the Gathering.  I was working in a Comic Book Store and got hooked, from there I leaped into Dungeons and Dragons Playing with the same group of High School friends that I played MtG with.  We bounced between Dungeons and Dragons and Shadow Run, and I quickly got bored with Magic and its tournament rules of eligable cards in a deck, (Not that I played in any tournaments).

Soon after one of group convinced me to try this new game he was hooked on Live Action Role-playing, specifically Vampire the Masquerade.  I scoffed at first thinking man a bunch of people hanging out pretending to be Vampires.  That’s just silly... but it turned out to be pretty fun.  From this experience I meet a great group of friends and players that showed me a few other games too, and I was introduced to Game Conventions, most notable Gen Con.  I still pretty much stuck to my guns and stayed with the White Wolf Themed games of Vampire and Werewolf.  I played a few Table Top Genera games, but was wholly addicted to LARP's I was playing at Every Friday and Most Saturdays and we filled the other Saturdays and Sundays with TT games.

I tried a lot of different Table Top Games, because at this point I was given the opportunity to be a Storyteller for a Vampire LARP.  We Tried Star Wars to Coincide with the New Prequels films although the enthusiasm didn't last, Earth Dawn was another favorite, although we could never get a game going for any great length of time.  Dead Lands’ was a great game, I loved the system that incorporated everything and the kitchen sink, but alas it was another game that didn't last.

I managed to trick two of my best friends to teach me a new Collectable Card Game, Legend of 5 Rings which captured me with its depth of story.  This CCG when it was still owned by AEG was the best game I ever played.  This led to playing the TT Version which lasted a little longer in various incarnations; I loved reading those books just to get a better grasp on the story.  We even talked about trying a LARP version but this never came to pass.

After several years of intense gaming I was introduced to Miniature War gaming through a Games Workshop game Called Mordieheim.  A group of us were going to have a Campaign so we all bought War bands.  I didn't have much invested in this and I learned a lot about putting the models together and painting them, although admittedly I'm not very good at it.  I don't remember playing more than a handful of games before these models were put away to collect dust.  Granted most of us already spent a small fortune on Hero Clix and those were now collecting dust too.

Then one day on the way back home from a LARP the same two friends that got me in to most of these other games, said they knew about a game shop that was closing and they had a bunch of things discounted.  So they sold me on playing because I wouldn't have to spend that much money because the army they were selling me was enough to play.  They sold me a good frame work for a Witch Hunter's Army they weren't using for at a really good price and I bought some stuff to fill out the army, and my addiction continued...

Soon after I became really short on time and gave up on pretty much all of my games exept for Warhammer 40K, I still have most of the books, now taking up space in a box in the Garage. I have continued playing Warhammer 40K, and have expanded my Witch Hunters Army and have continued on and have a Sizable Dark Eldar Army and have some Imperial Guard Tanks for the Armored Company I want to build at one point.

To everyone I've ever gamed with, Thanks!

Joe
